Ski Trip in Park City

My younger son and I are in Park City this week to ski. Snow is in the forecast and we are both very excited. We used Delta miles for our flights to fly non-stop from Philadelphia to Salt Lake City blog post and Ultimate Rewards points for our hotel stay. We are spending four free nights at the Hyatt Escala Lodge at Park City link located on the mountain at The Canyons ski resort. The resort is a category 4 and requires 15,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night. Since I am Hyatt diamond member my son and I will both receive a $20 credit each day of our stay good for a free buffet breakfast or to use at the resort for food before 11 a.m.

The hotel is less than a 45 minute drive from the Salt Lake City Airport, SLC. Most of the rental car companies are at the airport and cars are picked within walking distance of baggage claim with no shuttle needed.

On our ski trips there is much luggage to be checked. One of the great benefits of the Gold Delta American Express credit card link is one free checked bag per person for up to nine passengers on the same reservation. Delta allows one boot bag and one ski bag per person and counts those to bags as one for the free checked bag. So no baggage fees for us. Delta is quick getting luggage to the baggage claim area at SLC.

By 10:30 a.m. we had the rental car loaded and we were driving up to the mountains on a beautiful sunny day. We ate lunch at Chubasco Mexican Grill. The food was great and the two of us ate for only $14.00. Ordering is at the counter and we are given a number and free tortilla chips. While waiting for our lunch to be delivered to our table, we helped ourselves to the complimentary homemade salsas at their salsa bar to enjoy with the free of tortilla chips.

After lunch we checked in the Hyatt and as diamond members we were upgraded to a one bedroom queen suite in the Wasatch building which is the main building. This hotel does not have any one bedroom suites with two beds. They offered us an upgrade to the two bedroom suite for $300 per night. Since there are just the two of us, the one bedroom suite with the pull out sofa works fine.

We unpacked, got into our ski garb and went to the second floor to access the slopes. The sunrise lift is a very short ride down and it is free for the guests of the hotel. Since is was my first day skiing and I love free, I skied five runs down retreat, an intermediate run, to get tuned up for four more days of skiing. The weather was sunny and both the lift and retreat were deserted. It was a wonderful afternoon skiing in at The Canyons in Park City, Utah.
