Getting great value from your frequent flyer miles is a goal to try to achieve. Frequent flyer programs have sweet spots that give you the best value when you redeem your frequent flyer miles and points. Earlier this month I posted about an around the world trip we hope to take. Both Ben from One Mile At a Time and Gary from View From the Wing advised me that the best value for our trip is using US Airways miles to fly RTW for 110,000 miles in business class per person and 140,000 miles in first. Since we want to make a number of stops overs during our trip, we will also need to use miles from other programs. We will be looking at the best redemption value in various programs to use the least amount of miles for the best flights for these stops along the way too.
Gary has a great post about the sweet spots for reward tickets from US frequent flyer programs. He explains that getting from the US to Australia in business or first class is one of the most difficult routes to redeem miles. We are now waiting 330 days before our return date to try to get two tickets for our trip. The first of those dates is coming up next month. We certainly have enough US Airways Dividend miles, but will two seats be available in business or first class when we want to travel? Hopefully the flexibility in our dates of travel will help with availability for our round the world award tickets.
